Flagstone Patio Installation – Materials Needed!

When it comes to building or installing a flagstone patio, you will need a variety of tools order to get the job done.  For me, I make sure that I have everything together before I start digging, laying, or cutting the flagstone. So to help you out, I listed the basic materials that you will need in order to start installing your flagstone.

Materials For Flagstone Patio

- Hammer – You should have two types of hammers. First, you will need just a regular hammer for breaking up the flagstone. Use the flat end to break the pieces and the other end to make minor adjustments after breaking. You will also need a pound hammer. This will make it easy for you to break bigger pieces of flagstone.

- Chisels – Really any chisel will do but you will want a small and a large chisel. These will also be used for chipping away at the flagstone. You can get very detailed with chisels and they are highly recommended for any flagstone installation.

- Masonry Saw – If you are going to be installing a large flagstone patio, a masonry saw is a must have.  This will cut your time in half when you starting to break and chisel the flagstone

- Level & Chalk Line – This will be used to make sure everything is even and straight when it comes to installing your flagstone patio

- Transporter – A wheel barrel or some type of large holding container where you can store sand and cement.

- Shovels, Hoe, Etc – You will need shovels to dig and a hoe to even portions of your ground.

This should get you started!  Before you go out and by these materials for your flagstone installation, ask a neighbor or a friend if you can borrow them for the weekend. This will save you time and money. You could even get your buddy to help you out.

Till Next Time!

Cheers,

John
